Vanuatu


Vanuatu is a collection of around 80 volcanic islands lying between Brisbane and Fiji. With a rich traditional culture which includes the famous land divers of Pentecost, the world's most accessable active volcano on Tanna, a superb wreck dive, the SS Collidge o Espiritu Santo, and the charming seaside town of Port Vila, Vanuatu makes a great destination for an adventure holiday.



Efate Island


Efate Island is the main island of Vanuatu although it measures only 30 kilometres in diametre and takes only a few hours to travel around by car. The island has a mountainous interior and several nice beaches and waterfalls as tourist attractions. Port Vila is the dominant centre with the international airport and majority of tourist accommodation but there are a few small beach resorts along the south coast of the island including the popular day trip island of Hideaway.



Port Vila


Port Vila is the islands main population centre and capital of Vanuatu. Set on a beautiful harbour with several lovely offshore islands, Port Vila is tyhe main tourist centre of Vanuatu with a couple of large resorts and a dozen or so smaller botique resorts. The town has a population of around 40,000 Port Vila has a small city with only one stretch of road having shops. The centre of this area is the Municipal market, open 24-hrs and one of the most enjoyable to visit in the South Pacific. Port Vila's waterfront offers a handicraft market and several excellent restaurants and bars, whilst the famous local Kava bars are found in the hilly centre of the city along with Parliament and a small Museum.



Espiritu Santo


Espiritu Santo is the largest island in Vanuatu although much of the island is covered in dense tropical rainforest and virtually impenetrable. The main town is Luganville with the country's second international airport (Pekoa) and a dozen dive resorts dedicated to the islands main attraction, the offshore SS Coolridge wreck dive. Other attrcations include forest and coastal hikes, the stunning Champagne Beach and WW11 wrecks and abandoned equipment.



Tanna Island


The fiery display of Mt Yasur Volcano is the major attraction of Tanna and is best viewed at sunset. Tanna is also renowned for its rich traditional culture and village tours. There are only a couple of resorts on the island, little tourist infrastructure and most roads are dirt trails.
